Nokia dismissing up to 1000 employees

Recently there was a rumor about Nokia’s plans to dismiss up to 1000 employees. Actually, Finnish Nokia is planning to ask some employees to take vacations with no compensations for unlimited period. Nokia officially announced it. The program will be held since 1 March till 31 May, including 1000 employees.

The company hope that such actions will help avoid massive staff reductions. The program will be implemented globally in every country of Nokia’s operations and the programs peculiarities will be agreed with each country’s labor legislation.

Moreover, Nokia is going to encourage people to stop taking paid working hours at week-ends. These steps are aimed to implement the HR costs cutting planned before.

Earlier Nokia dismissed ca. 600 employees. In summer 2008 Nokia closed manufacturing complex in Germany with dismissal of ca. 2000 employees.
